My baby is almost 8 weeks old. After she was born I bled for about a week or so.I was shocked that I didnt bleed for too long like everyone kept telling me I would. But I guess every woman is different.Anyway a week and a half ago I did start bleeding which means I was 6 and a half weeks post partum. At first I was bleeding much it was just a little spotting I figured it was from my exam that maybe I was spotting. But than yesterday I started bleeding harder like an actual full blown period and I have cramps. I called my doctor and the nurse said most likely its my first period after pregnancy. My question is are periods after pregnancy heavier, and the cramps more painful. Cause I've had bad cramps, and also heavy bleeding for 2 days? The nurse said its normal but whats not normal is if I'm soaking up a pad every hour in blood. So far I'm not soaking up a pad but it is heavy. Also I am breastfeeding 100%. I read that usually breastfed woman dont get their period at least until they're dont breastfeeding or it gets delayed for a few months. The nurse said every womans body is different. Has any other breastfeeding woman gotten their period this early after the baby was born? If so was your period very painful/heavy?

  1. This does not sound normal. Do not listen to the nurse. You need to see a doctor. If your doctor takes walk-ins, then see him or her today. Better safe than sorry. I am sure you will be fine, but you need to address the problem. Hope you feel better soon!

  2. I had bleeding like that after I had my daughter.  I thought I was hemorrhaging!  I was going through 8-10 pads a day and still ruined a couple pairs of shorts!  A friend of mine went through the same thing.

Neither my friend or I had cramping with the bleeding, though.

Every since then, my periods have been much lighter than even before I was pregnant.
