This is my first month taking Yaz, and I just finished the pack Wednesday. I am supposed to start a new pack tonight, but I never got a period. I have been having some cramps and stomach pain for 2 days now, but nothing. The month before I tried the nuvaring for a month, and when it came out I had a period for a few days- the Sunday after I started Yaz since I didnt like the ring.

I took Yaz for about a year previously and I never had a problem starting my period. There is NO chance I could be pregnant. I have PCOS and have not ovulated in months. Doctor told me I would need fertility meds to even try to conceive so I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced a missed period after switching birth control pils or methods.

Thanks.

  1. A true period requires ovulation to have taken place.  If you are not ovulating, then you won't have a period.  You can have what is called an anovulatory cycle which may include bleeding due to some other cause that can be mistaken for a true period.  The combined oral contraceptive pill is designed to prevent ovulation (as if eggs were released, fertilisation would be possible) and the bleeding that can occur in the inactive or rest week is due to other reasons such as the drop in hormone levels causing withdrawal bleeding, or the gradual buildup of uterine walls until they cannot sustain themselves and get breakthrough bleeding.

As you have no fear of pregnancy I would recommend continuing the Yaz and you may well find that after a few months the anovulatory 'period' begins to occur.
