I have had cramps since 10:30 this morning (It's now 5:57pm). I took 3 ibuprofen around 11 with no relief, and then took 3 more at 12:30 still with no relief. The pain comes in waves (doubled over in pain one minute and then just annoying the next) but is always present. I just took another 3 ibuprofen about 20 minutes ago. Should I go to the ER or just wait it out? I called my regular OBGYN and the office is closed I also called my general doc and they are closed too. Please help, I am in a lot of pain.

  1. Go to the emergency room. U shouldn't be in that much pain.

  2. Go lie in a hot bath if possible or take a long hot shower. get a heat pad or hot water bottle and put your fav pjs on and curl up in bed or on the couch.

  3. if it gets totally unbearable then yes go to the ER or a clinic near by. If it isnt too bad then take a warm bath and after put a heating pad/ blanket on where the cramping is. If that doesnt help try exercising cus that helps sometimes. if it does get really bad go to the ER though cus it might be something more serious. Get Well soon!

  4. Have a very hot bath and then afterwards maybe try and go to sleep. I used to get really bad cramps and fainted a couple of times.... *very embarrassing* But generally there isn't much a doctor can do. They might be able to recommend some stronger over the counter pain killers. Or possibly the pill, as it reduces period pains. But have a nice hot bath and then get into bed with a big duvet and blankets and watch tv if you can't sleep and have some chocolate to munch on. If the pain is still bad, then get a doctors appointment for that day.

  5. awwww im so sorry hun!! I get cramps that bad too, so I went to the doc and I have a perscribed pain med when im on my period.

If it is absoulutely unbearable you can go to the ER,  but you'll end up sitting in the waiting room FOREVER and youll have a fatty bill :(

My advice to you is to drink lots of water, and take a hot bath, and when you're out, lay down on your back, and put a hot pack on your stomach or back, wherever the pain is coming from.

When you get the painful wave, breath slowly and deeply, and concentrate on something else.

Also, do not eat or drink anythign with mint! It makes cramps worse from what I've seen AND experienced!!

I'm so sorry you'r egoing through this! try to be strong and hang in there!! OH and call your OBGYN first thing in the morning for a check up & to see about pers. pain meds for the cramps.

  6. periods can sometimes be very painful. when mine starts i am usually in the bed with a heating pad. that is on top of the aspirins that i take to deal with the pain. stay away from caffiene and salt. those will make the cramps worse.

  7. Try a different medicine=/

  8. Try Midol it always works for me

  9.    Well my friend said hers was like that too once. There's not really too much you can do, but you might wanna not take any more Ibprofin for a few hours so you don't go overboard.I'm not completely sure if this works or not but I heard bananas were supposed to help with cramps. sorry for ur pain.

  10. Awww hunni i can sympathize with you!!

I get really bad period pain too....i find having a bath sometimes helps? And i always have my hot water bottle handy too, it helps to sooth the pains! I also got a lit-lets rub that helps too.

But hunni please please please dont take anymore tablets! Thats a lot! But you know....next time you can take 2 ibuprofen and 2 paracetamol at the same time....kills the pain much quicker!!

    Hope you feel better soon!

    x*x

  11. OMGness!!!!!!!!! DID you know that you can kill over from liver failer taking that many ibuprophen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My goodness, that is almost like over doseing!!! CALL THE ER! Not Kidding, lady.

  12. i have the same problem. i never had cramps before but now i get them regularly w/ a large amount of pain. to the point where it hurts so bad i want to cry. i'm actually going to the doctors today to see if i can get on birth control. my sister used to have the same problem & she got on birth control & it made her period both lighter & practically completely eliminated the cramp pains. hopefully it'll do the same for me. :]

as for your issue at hand right now, i'd say drink something warm, put socks on your feet & keep warm. if you have any use a heat pad. i usually use those & they allow me to at the very least get out of the house for about 20 minutes. but when they go away i'd advise you to go to the doctors office to get it checked out. :]

  13. Midol - a gift from God himself[:

  14. Yes, Midol or Pamprin works well. Or put a heating pad on your lower stomach or a really hot bath. It always works for me! If you can, exercise usually makes cramps go away also!

  15. Is it your FIRST period?

because if its the first then that happens.

And, if u already had ur first dont go to the ER,

just wait.. and if it continues. then Idk,

try something else instead of taking the pills/medicine

  16. i take motrin which works for me. take at least two.

  17. Go to the ER. Whether this might be a serious health concern or something very minor I would go. It's better to be at the ER and have nothing wrong with you then not being there and having a serious health issue.

  18. drink some hot tea if you have any....get in a nice warm bath relax a little and that should calm them down...i have really bad cramps to and that seems to help me! if you need a little more relief get one of those heating pads and use that when you lay down in bad!

  19. might want to go to a close by doctor

or until tomorrow...if it get truly bad until then...go to the hospital

  20. Well be prepared to wait a very long time at the ER and what will they do for you anyway.  Do you have a clinic in your area for mini-emergencies?  Where I live there are several of those.  They are great for off-hour emergencies including colds, female issues, etc.  In the future you should mention to your obgyn how bad your cramps are and he can prescribe something. My doc had me on a pill called anaprox which worked reallly well.  My friend had awful periods too and she chose to get on the depo shot which eliminates the period altogether.  There are some side effects with the shot though so talk it over with your doc if you decide to do that.

  21. okay you need to take two aleve every 7 or 8 hours. take advil in between then too but do not take both medicines at the same time.
