Question:

Period is 5 days late, any advice?

I'm 5 days late for my period. I don't have any symptoms of pregnancy and I haven't taken a HPT yet. I did have cramps and abdominal pain/discomfort for about 4 days last week, but I never started. I may have ovulated later in my cycle, so this could be the cause of a late period. My question is, how long should I wait before contacting my doctor? Should I wait until I'm 10 days late or is that too long to wait?

  1. i had no pregnancy symptoms when i found out i was pregnant apart from mild period cramps about a week before period was due, that's how i knew i was pregnant, i would take a test or have a urine test done at the doctors

  2. Take a test. Go from there. Try not to stress though because that can cause a missed/late period.

  3. it is wonderful !!!!!!u don't have any interesting in using pregnancy test yet but u ask when can i call dr?/?

  4. if i were you i would do a HPT before going to the dr... if you take an HPT and its neg, and you still havent started a few days after, then take another one or go to the dr and get a blood test done!!!!

GOOD LUCK AND LOTS OF BABY DUST!!!<3

  5. well typically it is easier to take a hpt then go to the doctor, especially if you suspect you just ovulated late... but officially if you have missed a period you can test anytime, either with a hpt or a blood test through your doc

  6. Your doctor might not actually see you until you've had a positive home test result! Do the urine test first, use FMU which is more concentrated, and then call your doc for a blood test to confirm it. The discomfort you felt could have been from implantation; sometimes the uterus tries to figure out why something just decided to burrow into it, and it starts to try out some little contractions. In 84% of cases, implantation occurs 8-10 days after ovulation. So if that seems to time out right, maybe that's your answer. Good luck!

  7. dont get to excited too soon, You want this so bad the stress could be causing the delay.  try the HPT first if neg wait and try see may just be too soon.

  8. If you were pregnant, it would be too early to notice any symptoms that you could only attribute to pregnancy.

The first thing to do is take an HPT.  If it comes out negative, wait a week and if AF doesn't arrive, try another HPT.  Repeat the cycle until AF arrives, or you develope sure symptoms of pregnancy, then go get a blood test.

Otherwise, late periods are no big deal.  There's all sorts of stressor that could cause your body to decide to not ovulate, and until you ovulate, you likely will not get a period.
