Hi, so i just got my period, and i told my sister, my Mom, and my best friends.

Im not upset, i broke out (yay..not) and feel moody, tired and sore

My first night(lastnight) i got some blood on the sheets and my fav pj's!!

It sucks but im ok. I kinda want to use tampons, so if someone has any advice, PLEASE help!

Also, anything that makes you feel better then, chocolate, movies?

Any positions of sitting, lying down?

And i have no idea what my flow is!

How do you tell if you're light medium or heavy??

and also, sometimes these kinda mucus-y blood (that are dark) come out!

and also i feel like, well, this is awkward, but i feel like my v****a is blowing bubbles!!!

AHH, sorry about all the spelling mistakes, and all the questions, but if someone could help me out, that would be great

  1. It's great that you are comfortable enough to talk about it with the people closest to you. The symptoms you describe are pretty much standard for getting your period.

A tip for the future, it's WAY easier to get blood out when the stain is still fresh. So if you end up spotting on your underwear once you find the stain clean it up immediately. Otherwise your only hope is bleach which can ruin clothes that aren't white.

I think it's good to start out with pad's first but  talk to your mom about what she thinks is best for you. If you really want to use tampons try them out! Just make sure your aware of how to properly use them and avoid TSS.

The normal menstrual flow follows a "crescendo-decrescendo" pattern; that is, it starts at a moderate level, increases somewhat, and then slowly goes away. Your cycles should not last more than 7 days.

The mucus blood is part of the lining of your uterus. It's completely normal to have. The lining of the uterus - the endometrium - has been thickened by the action of hormones and made ready to receive the fertilized egg.Since your egg isn't fertilized that lining has to go somewhere!

To give you some tips on surviving those dreaded weeks to come:

--refrain from drinking caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea, cola or cocoa.

--Try to avoid stressful situations, relaxation and massage can work wonders!

--Exercising and staying fit can help prevent painful periods. I know you can feel super exhausted during your period but getting outside and doing a physical activity helps lessen cramps and other period symptoms.

--Stay away from greasy foods. You most likely will crave them but they aren't good for you either way! Supplement those cravings with foods that are healthy but you also like!

You should also try to keep a track record of your period. This is especially important to make sure your having regular cycles. It even will help you calculate when your next period will be. There are a ton of websites that can help you with this. One i like is mon.thy.info where it's easy to sign up and the interface is great!

  2. 1. you really shouldnt use tampons the first couple of time s you get your period. just wait a little, try thinner pads if you find them uncomfortable

    2. chocolate helps with cramps, as well as exercise, and hot compresses

    3. well if you have cramps try laying down in a fetal position, idk how much it'll help but i know it helps me

    4. at first youre going to have a heavy flow but once your period becomes more regulated it will work into a pattern. it will most likely be heavy the first day or two and then lighten up until it eventually ends.

    5. the bubble thing is probably due to a heavy flow. dont worry about it

  3. trust me, try tampons, they are a life saver.  Just start out with regular sized, and adjust from there.  You won't regret using them, feels like you're not on your period when you wear them.

  4. trust me ur fine. all that stuff is pretty normal. and also i always crave junk food (i.e. chips, chocolate, soda, and ice cream) on my periods and it kinda sux becuase when i crave it i eat like unhealthy amounts of it but anyway... try to ignore the cravings becuase u will eat till ur sick. and also if u start getting cramps or anything like that get the midol TEEN version becuase the teen version is extra strength and the other stuff doesnt really work.

  5. well im a boy but common sense tampons are good

  7. First off, congrats on entering womanhood. As for your favorite Pj's and sheets, pour peroxide on them before you wash them, that will get the blood out. Use the slim tampons to start off. The directions in the box are very helpful. use them! don't eat food just because people say it will make it better. eat it if you crave it! Bananas really do help cramps though. Lying on your stomach on a heating pad works wonders for cramps. So does going for a swim and doing a few laps in the pool (for me anyways). It doesn't really matter what your flow is, just don't use tampons if there isn't very much blood, it could hurt. The mucus stuff is just your uterus linings shedding. (dead skin from inside your uterus) There's nothing you can do about the bubbles thing. Its uncomfortable, but tampons usually take that feeling away. Use a pad/pantie liner still when you use tampons to prevent accidents, and change the tampon every 3 hours. NEVER leave it in more than 8 hours, so i wouldn't recommend sleeping with them, its really bad for you. Hope i helped a bit. GOOD LUCK!

  8. if your 11/12 i would say not to use tampons at this moment. start off with pads and get comfortable with them and then go onto the "teen" tampons which are the thinnest and easiest to apply at first. When your comfortable enough and if you have a heavier flow use the thicker tampons. Never were them to bed though that is a big mistake to do:p

for positions, while sleeping lay on your side and were the "overnight" pads.

also bananas are good to eat when you have your period.

dont worry about the dark blood. that is jsut old blood and every girl gets it at first and the bubble thing is normal too.

    hope this helped you out!

  9. If you've only just started your period, you probably will find it difficult to use tampons.  From personal experience as well as the experiences of friends when we were growing up, they're not the best choice for the first couple of years.  If you're getting blood on your sheets and PJ's, use a high-absorbancy pad.  You can even get ones to use overnight that are longer and wider, to stop stains.

As far as feeling better goes - thats  only something you can work on.  Whatever makes you feel better is what you need.  Remember though, that you shouldn't just hole up in bed when you have your period, if you can help it.  You'll spend a lot of your life in bed if you do!!

You'll learn to know your flow as you become more regular.  It'll probably be lighter, then heavier, than lighter again for awhile.  Use the heavier absorbancy pads if you're worried.  And yes, you will get globs of blood, which are large clots of blood that have come off your uterus (which is the point of your period), and yes, it does feel like you "blow bubbles". The only way you'll get around that is using a tampon though.

Hope that helped! Remember, there are no silly questions, the more you know about what's happening to you, the easier things will be :)
