  1. First of all, realize that almost all of the girls are going to have the same problem. Just let the teacher know and sit out those days.

Don't worry that it'll suddenly come when you're in the pool. For one thing, water often causes menstrual bleeding to slow or stop. For another, when it starts, it's usually just a spot or two, not a heavy flow. Just check before getting in the pool, and if it hasn't come yet, you'll be fine for that hour or two.

By the way, tiny amounts of blood in the pool are unlikely to harm anyone. Not only are pools chlorinated to kill bacteria, but menstrual blood is not a disease.

  2. Don't worry first of all. You can start out with tampons but if you do I would get either tampax pearl or playtex gentle glide and I'd get the light flow ones. It is going to be a little uncomfortable the first few times but you will get used to it. If you don't want to try that you could always talk to your parents for advice or talk to your teacher and get excused from swimming for a few days.

  3. I agree with the other suggestion of having your Mom (or Dad) write a note to excuse you. I understand your fear of tampons, I've had my period for 10 years and this past period was the first time I was comfortable using them. So you're not alone!

Also your period typically only comes (on the day that its due) when you go to the bathroom. As you get older, you'll learn to better predict when it comes.

  4. If your really that worried get your mum to write a note to your teacher that you can't do swimming (they'll understand)

but as you've only just started yours will be irregular so i wouldn't bank on it definitely coming then.

I've been on mine for about a year and it's only beginning to get regular.

Welcome to the 'wonderful' world of womanhood (:

  5. You can wear tampons the very first day of your very first period.

Try tampax pearl lites as they are very slender and have a plastic applicator.

I've worn tampons since age 11, and I'm 34 now, so I've had 23+ years of experience.

You need to wear a tampon or moon/diva cup or you cannot go into the pool as you WILL bleed into the water and you WILL contaminate the pool with your blood.

  6. look dont worry its ok! i wouldn't count on getting your period on schedule because a lot of girls get their first one and dont get their second one for a couple more months. if you do have it, you can always ask your mom to write you a note, or if your swimming teacher is female, she will probably understand. if your period comes while you are in school, just go to the nurse and she will write you a note to get you out of gym. i've also heard that your period stops in water, but i wouldn't count on that happening. if need be, just go to the nurse, say your stomach hurts then lie down till class is over. :)

  7. if you dont want to go swimming, tell your teacher, and she will be TOTALLY FINE with it. i bet you're not the only one!

you can start with tampons if you want, it doesnt make a difference when you start using them, but it does take practice, so you might not get it right the first time and need a couple of months to get it right.

if your period does come on the pool, it wont be a lot like you are thinking, because of water retention. it wont go obviously into the water, it may just be in your costume lightly, and will mainly come when you get out of the water.

dont worry, just tell your teacher (she will be fine i promise) and start practicng for next time!

    good luck!

  8. Get your parent/guardian to write you a note to your teacher explaining and asking them to let you miss the class. Tampons are ok if you know how to use them but i wouldn't recommend you try them for the first time when your swimming - you should only use tampons when your period has started anyway not when you are waiting for it 2 happen

  9. Tell the teacher. Simple. They will understand and exclude you from that class =)

-Just read that 'your second will come by then (in a few days)'

The average woman has a period every month, and bleeds for 5 days. If you've stopped bleeding before this class, then it's highly unlikely that you will before next month!

  10. If your period does start it will only be a little trickle so don't worry about it starting in the pool.  You will soon get used to the signs of it starting.

You can also tell your teacher, they will be used to it and if they are a nice teacher then they will reassure you.  You could also ask your mum or dad to write a note for the teacher and you should be excused from the class if neccessary.
