Question:

Periodically wake up with red eye?

Maybe once every couple of months I wake up with one eye that is very red. It isn't itchy or painful, and it isn't always the same eye. The eye may feel a little dry or slightly irritated, but there is none of the itching and crustiness that you get with pinkeye. Usually it clears up on its own in a couple of days. My guess is that an eyelash or something else irritates my eye while I am sleeping. Should I be concerned? And is there anything I can do about it other than use natural tears-type eyedrops and wait for it to go away?

  1. Believe it or not, you may be poking yourself in the eye or sleeping so that a finger is up against the eye.  I would mention it to your eye doctor next time you go, but it is probably not a problem.  As you said, it may be an eyelash, especially if you do not remove all eye makeup (lid and lash) before you go to sleep.

  2. Is it a deep red color , this has happened to me, the doctor said a blood vessel has bursted in my eye but not to worry it will go away within 7 days .He said visine will not help it neither just keep it clean the area. So I did and sure enough the red went away.
