Question:

Peripheral vision hallucinations?

For the past 4-8 months I've been having random, minor hallucinations in my peripheral vision, like thinking I saw something slip off my desk, or thinking I saw a small black object fly straight upwards like 10 feet directly to my right, or thinking I saw something the size of a mouse run dart across the floor (there are no mice). Each of them is really quick, less than a split second, and they only happen once every couple of days at the most. My only guess is that it's an effect of the higher dose of St. John's Wort I've been taking, but I couldn't find any info on that. Any ideas what the cause could be?

  1. There are several things that could be happening to you, 1st is you are having what is called a aura that people have before getting a headache, 2nd from what you described it maybe what is called floaters in your eyes that you think you are seeing things usually it is dark objects that one describes.  You could be having a reaction to the St. John's Wort but is doubtful try cutting back on the meds and see what happens. You may want to get your eyes checked.  Good Luck and take care

  2. What I have to say is that it is definitely possible that it is not a brain tumor or drugs (though I have absolutely no experience in dealing with St. John's Wort).  Don't ignore this- my hallucinations started the same way, and they turned out to be bigger than just little things. (and little things do count as hallucinations too- not just seeing an FBI agent come out of your closet or purple elephants on the ceiling), and I spent several months being "diagnosed", and they never really decided whether I'm bipolar or schizophrenic.  I'm definitely NOT saying that you have one of these, but I'm also not saying you don't, because what you are describing happened to me the exact same way in the beginning.

Now it's up to you whether or not you can deal with it on your own, or want to be pumped full of medication.  (I sound negative about that, but it does help some people)  The major problem with deciding to live with hallucinations is that you will eventually have a serious problem sorting out that which is real from that which isn't.  And trust me, it is not fun not to know whether or not to trust your mind.

  3. Darling there're so many causes of hallucinations

    It could be

Pscychotic Disorders, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective disorder, Manic depressive disorder, Mania, Puerperal psychosis, Grief, Drug induced psychoses, drug intoxication, alchohol abuse, extreme fatigue, Brain disorders, confusion, stroke etc...

  4. Brain tumor is all I can think.  That is one of the major symptoms.

  5. This is weird that you say this...

The same thing actually happens to me. And i have taken high dosages of St. Johns wort for the last 2 years.

I suppose that it could be an effect of the SJW, but being that this hasn't really come up on any side effects lists at all, do you think that maybe this could be an effect of the anxiety that we treat with the SJW? I used to have far more frequent peripheral hallucinations and they have become more and more sparse in the last year as I got older and my anxiety became less intense, to where now it may only happen every few weeks whereas before it happened every day or two. it seems to happen more now when I'm tired or unhappy or something. So either, this is an effect of the actual anxiety OR this is how your body may react as you get used to taking the SJW.

you can email me we should talk about this more

  6. If you're taking more than 750 mg of SJW per day that's way too much. Cut back on it and see what happens. It could be that you have floaters in the posterior chamber of the eye that you see peripherally. If these things continue after you try cutting back on the SJW, I would consult an eye doctor.

  7. Stop the John's wort. Give it several days after stopping and if it still occurs better go checked by a Dr.

  8. lay off the drug
