What would you see through your eyes if you were experiencing Peripheral vision loss?

I don't have anything like this, but am curious. I was doing something for an assigment a while back but couldn't find any information.

Basically if you was experiencing Peripheral vision loss would you know you was? And what would it look like through the eye?

Do you basically see a black patch around the outside where vision is missing?

  1. From personal knowledge, its like having a shadow circling around the outside area of the field of vision.

Glaucoma is one instance of loss of peripheral vision, this is caused by high pressure inside the eyeball itself and it strangles the optic nerve, cutting off the peripheral vision. Resulting in eventual loss of sight.

The first answerer got it right too.

I hope this helps you in your question, good luck.

  2. im not answering your question, the person who said they experience it themselves answered best. I'm just correcting those people who gave reasons for loss of peripheral vision, glaucoma DOES NOT strangle the optic nerve. I dont think people should contribute reasons unless they know for sure.

  3. Hi

I have peripheral vision loss . Because of Glaucoma . When I look at something I can see a grey area not black.( It is a myth when people think if you have any vision loss you see blackness) Glaucoma is known as the thief of sight . Because the loss of the field of vision develops slowly and the damage cannot be repaired. Yes you do see a grey area where the vision is missing . That s why its called tunnel vision because its basically like looking down a tunnel . When you look at at something you have a wide panoramic view . When I look at the same object . My eyes give me less information. Hope this helps.

  4. if this is your case ,you must go to see a doctor /optition straight away.this is usually caused by the optic nerves being streched or slackend ,due to a growth or other obsticles obsrtucting movement .this dose not let the light onto the eye and causes a shadow .on the outer /inner vision.

  5. I have a degree of vision loss in my peripheral field.

Basically, when you look forward, hold your arms out straight and slowly bring them out until you can't see them- people with loss of peripheral vision wouldn't be able to go as wide as you.

It's not an actual missing section, in the same way when you look forward and can only see a certain amount, it's just less.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense, hope it helped though.

PS Thanks for being one of the few people who type with correct grammar/spelling and uses punctuation!
