Anyone have knowledge, links, or personal info about permanent hearing loss due to airbag in accidents? My dad was in an accident about a month ago (front passenger) in a Toyota Tundra hitting a deer. We were initally told it would probably be temporary, not diagnosed as permanent. Can anyone explain why? Anyone have this problem, or have articels I can print for my father?

  1. Temporary hearing loss is very common resulting from airbag deployment. Back in the eighties, Saab vehicles had so many high output explosive airbags in their vehicles that they designed the sunroof to 'blow off' the car during deployment in order to relieve the extreme air pressure inside the vehicle (which was rupturing eardrums).

Yet another reason to get rid of the foul things....

If they do not directly address this question, they have a link to ask questions.

  3. I've been a f/f for over a decade and have seen many air bag deployments and even set off a few myself.. they aren't THAT loud, i wouldn't even compare the noise to high powered rifle.  no need for worry, unless he's just at that point of having deteriorating hearing.

17% face increased risk, especially with windows rolled down.

  5. Sound like you need an attorney, and go after the manufacturer of what ever type of vehicle you have. Unless there is a pre-ex condition involving your hearing you may very well have a good case.
