Question:

Permanently removing naval ring?

(Earlier tonight I asked a question concerning my BB piercing, but I am not good with this website, and am just going to ask a whole new question.)

I have almost, for sure, decided to permanently remove my piercing.

I put a lot of thought into getting it, but now that I have it, I don't want it.

My question is, when can I remove the ring so that the hole safely heals? (I got it pierced five days ago.) And also, how do I make sure the hole heals up safely?

Thank you.

  1. You can take it out whenever, it just might be a little bit painful at the moment to do so, but if you really don't want it, i'm sure that won't be an issue, before you take it out soak it in salt water to remove any 'crusties' and then take it out, continue to treat it like you would the piercing, salt water soaks twice a day, it's still an open wound at the end of the day. It should be fine though and heal okay :)

  2. As long as your piercing isn't infected I'd go ahead and remove the jewelry a.s.a.p. with clean or gloved hands. If it is infected you will need to clear up the infection completely before even thinking about removing the jewelry because the last thing you want is an infection trapped inside the fistula (hole). If you're unsure go to your piercer for his/her professional opinion.

As far as making sure you heal with no complications just keep the area clean with an unscented, liquid antimicrobial soap (Provon, Satin) twice a day (no more) and sea salt soak* afterward to draw out any possible infection. If your local shop doesn't carry Provon or Satin, liquid Dial or another unscented antibacterial liquid soap will be fine.

No ointments, creams, salves, peroxide, rubbing alcohol, etc. You don't want to create a warm, most environment for bacteria to thrive and at the same time you don't want to kill off both the beneficial and harmful bacteria.

    Good luck! :D

*¼ tsp. sea salt to 1 cup (8oz.) warm water

  3. The sooner you take it out, the better the chances that you'll have a smaller scar. Just keep treating it as if the piercing were there with your cleaning routine and it'll close up without any problems.

  4. well if its still red and sore thts natural and u cant take it out just yet or it might get infected keep treating it and i would go back to the place whr u got it done b4 u do it just to make sure
