Question:

Permission to work in europe?

I am an American citizen, and I have a German living permit. (aufenthaltserlaubnis). I have been studying here for a year and a half. I also have additional permission to work up to 90 full days in the year (or 180 half days at 4 hours.) I have not used these days... this is the typical student limitation as far as I know.

I have just received a short term work opportunity in Amsterdam starting as soon as possible. My question is- does my German working permit allow me to work in the Netherlands as well?...

Thanks, Adam

  1. You have to apply to work in other European countries Just because you have a permit for Germany doesn't mean you can work we say UK, France etc.

  2. No, you must make separate arrangements for a work permit outside of Germany.  While a Schengen visa allows travel inside the Schengen Zone, the long-term visas/work permits  are not so interchangeable.  However, that you already have the necessary permits in Germany will reflect well in your favor.  You would do best to be coordinating your assignment with your student advisor in Germany.
