Permit to give cake as gift?

do i need a permit or license to give my cakes away as gifts? im making wedding cakes at no charge so i can get my work out for maybe a business in the future. i only charge for the supplies.

  2. If you're charging for supplies - you're not giving them away.

    You need a sales permit and you will have to collect taxes.  Additionally, you'll need a Health Permit - to run a kitchen.

  3. Don't worry about it at this moment.

    I to am getting back in to cake decorating and I am not  charging for cakes, but people pay me, I look at it as money in my pocket... doing it for friends and people that I work for.  

    If and when you start a business then you should apply for TIN

    (TAX ID Number).  

    As for charging only for supplies, there is nothing wrong with that, Look at it this way..  The people that you are making the cakes for are buying the supplies and giving them to you.  Or they are giving you the money to buy the supplies that you need to make their cake, so you are not charging them for supplies and wouldn't need a business lic. as a previous answer said..
