Permit use in another state?

Im am from California, but am visiting my grandmother who lives in New York. my question is if i have my permit that you get when your 15.5 - 18 from the state of CA, can i drive with her (she has a valid NY drivers license) in the state of NY, legally?

so if we get pulled over for what ever reason could she or i get in trouble?
