Pernilla Lindberg off to a good start in Ireland
Pernilla Lindberg started the Ladies’ Irish Open with an amazing performance. She scored 68 points and is now in the second place after the first round.
The Swedish golfer started the day with a par on the first hole. This was nothing unusual and since it was the start of the day, fans and observers waited for her game in the middle holes.
She did not disappoint anyone and scored a birdie on the second hole. While the fans were cheering, she went ahead and scored another birdie on the third hole. The fans started asking for a third birdie on the fourth hole.
However, Lindberg shot a bogey here and momentarily disappointed the fans. She gained her form back and shot another birdie on the fifth hole. She sort of evened that with a bogey on the seventh hole. Later, she made up for it with a birdie on the eighth
hole.
Lindberg played uneventfully till the 12th hole. Here she again birdied the hole. This was her fifth birdie of the day. The 14th hole saw her shooting a bogey. She went ahead and scored a birdie on the 17th hole.
She finished the day at the second place, one short of the leading player Catriona Matthew. Lindberg played a great game in the first round but her performance left much to be desired.
Many commentators have said that her up-and-down game might have gotten her the second place in the first round but she might not be able to sustain her lead.
Her performance showed that she does have the potential but lacks the temperament that is required for a win at a top level event like the Ladies’ Irish Open. The second round will see many players making their moves and the real test of Lindberg’s skills
will begin.
Despite these opinions, Linderg is very pleased with her performance. She added, “I was very steady and didn’t miss many fairways. I think I missed number one and then hit every fairway. My irons were good. I gave myself chances with short birdie putts and
my putting was good too”.
