Pernilla Lindberg performs well at Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012
Swedish Pernilla Lindberg performed well at the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012, as she shot an overall 278 finishing tied for the 18th position on the leaderboard.
Lindberg kicked off the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament at Highland Meadows Golf Club in grand style as she carded a 64 in the opening round and grabbed an early lead.
The first-round lead boosted her confidence and she tried her best to remain in contention. However, the Swedish star could not maintain the momentum in the next three rounds putting a dent on her overall position
on the leaderboard.
Lindberg, who was confident after consolidating her position after taking an early lead, posted a 71 in the second round, which dragged her down to a lower position. Then, she carded a 70 and 73 in the third
and fourth round respectively, which hampered her from keeping her grip on the match.
Analysts said that after she got off to a solid start at Ohio, most of the players thought it would be difficult for Asian contenders to maintain their ascendency. However, the last three rounds reflected that
this was not the case and South Korean rivals ramped up pressure by posting good scores.
Speaking to the media at the end of the second round, the Swede said that she was more than happy when she saw her name atop the leaderboard, but could not keep a grip on her putting in the last three rounds.
She said that her game has improved quite a lot in recent months, as she is now more confident in tackling tough situations. She added that her performance in recent tournaments — both LPGA and LET (Ladies
European Tour) — has been much better, which helped her perform well at Ohio.
“I actually slept really good. I think I handled the situation better than I would have a while ago. Just like we were talking about yesterday, I've been playing good in Europe lately, been up in the lead
there a few times. I feel more and more comfortable every time I'm there,” Lindberg said.
“I also started working with a mental coach just a few weeks ago. First time I talked to him was at Evian, about two weeks ago”.
