Question:

Peroxide and baking soda for teeth whitening?

II have heard that to whiten your teeth you can dip your toothbrush in a bit of peroxide and then dip it into a bit of baking soda and brush with it.

I've also read that peroxide can be pretty dangerous if you accidentally swallow it. So I'm confused, is this okay to do?

And by peroxide, do they mean hydrogen peroxide, the stuff that comes in the brown bottle?

  1. My dentist told me that you should never use baking soda that it actually damages the enamel. It may appear to whiten but it not in the long run.

Use white strips. You can keep them white by swishing with peroxide but that just tastes nasty. The listerine pre-brush rinse tastes better in my opinion.

  2. Hydrogen Peroxide is regarded as an irritant to the gums, old techniques  using HP was used but gums should be covered properly, and that's to ensure the gums are not in contact with HP, Use other products as strips or just baking soda, it work just fine.

  3. Ive used that method for years. Just don't swallow it! Yes the stuff in the brown bottle is safe. If a bit goes down don't worry just don't take a swig of the stuff.

  4. I have tried using the peroxide, yes, the brown bottle, to whiten my teeth also.  I dipped my tooth brush in the peroxide and brushed my teeth with it.  It is not dangerous.  Any amount that u would swallow would not hurt you.  If you drank it yes, but for what u are doing no.  I have not tried the baking soda with it.....sounds like a good idea, as those are the main ingredients in the tooth whiteners.
