Perpignan's Guilhem Guirado included in Marc Lièvremont’s 2011 Rugby World Cup squad
French national rugby union team head coach, Marc Lièvremont, has announced the inclusion of Guilhem Guirado in his provisional squad for the 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC). The participation of the hooker Guirado was announced on Tuesday, June 21.
The 25-year-old Guirado has been named to the provisional side in place of the injured duo of Dimitri Szarzewski and William Servat.
Last Friday, surgery was performed on Servat’s left knee. After the successful completion of the operation and the surgeon’s recommendations, the player has been ruled out of the game for the next 12 months. Dimitri Szarzewski may have a chance to play in
the World Cup but he is still recovering from his Achilles tendon injury. The Toulouse hooker had is Achilles operated on in February this year and he is still to attain match fitness.
The French club’s support staff has expressed hopes that Szarzewski will recover in time and will possibly play in France’s pre-World Cup preparation matches.
Ceret born Guirado started his professional rugby union career with Perpignan. He made his international debut for France against Italy at Stade de France in March 2008. He has so far made 12 international appearances for France’s national rugby union team
and was part of the France outfit that participated in the 2011 RBS Six Nations tournament.
France head coach, Marc Lièvremont, announced his 32 men provisional squad for 2011 RWC on 11th May. He left out the experience trio of Sebastian Chaba, Yannick Jauzion, and Clement Poitrenaud from the squad.
