Perry Barr’s Paul Meek looking for foster mother for a litter of nine greyhound racing puppies
Greyhound trainer, Paul Meek, who trains at the Perry Barr stadium, is searching anxiously for a foster mother for a litter of nine puppies whose own mother died during a C-section delivery on Wednesday, the 7th of July.
A desperate Meek said, "I am desperate; I will travel anywhere to collect the foster mother”.
He even posted his appeal online and provided his telephone number to facilitate those who had a b***h available.
However, there has been slow progress so far and although there have been offers for b*****s, Meek has not yet decided on who he will select to foster the mother.
He has been offered a b***h who was whelped almost two months ago by Elaine Wood but he initially refused to let the b***h be a mother to his litter when he heard that she was becoming ‘snappy’ even with her own litter.
Meek said that he felt that the b***h could not cope with feeding another nine puppies after she had been feeding three of her own for seven weeks.
Wood later on explained that being snappy was not the same as being ‘vicious’ and that her b***h was just agitated as her own puppies were growing claws and teeth.
Wood said she still feels that her b***h was suitable for the litter because she had stopped feeding her own puppies which meant that the orphaned puppies can have her to themselves. In her opinion the timing was great.
However, Meek has not yet responded to Wood’s explanation and so a decision has not yet been finalised.
In case he is unable to find a suitable foster mother, Meek might try his luck at a local dog pound.
This is not the first time that the National Greyhound Racing Club (NGRC)-licensed Meek has undergone trouble related to his greyhounds.
In 2007, he was training a greyhound who was being treated for hypothyroidism when he was advised by a veterinary surgeon to race the dog. The vet was later charged for a breach of greyhound racing rules.
The past few days have been difficult for Meek who wants to find a foster mother as soon as possible. He can be reached on 07961303201 for any assistance or referrals, anyone can provide to help him in his issue.
