Perry or Thomas Jones?

Hi,

As a 2nd RB would you choose Chris Perry (now #1 since Rudi Johnson was cut) or Thomas Jones of the Jets. I'm still leaning towards Thomas but Perry is playing against a shambled Baltimore team.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Regards,

Steve

  1. Definitely Jones.  Perry is in a time-share situation at best, and Jones is the main back on the Jets.  He may not be the best running back, but for the first few weeks, go with the guy who will get more playing time.  After 2-3 weeks, evaluate the situation again.

  2. Personally, I like Jones here - the Bengals are a mess as a team while the Jets have improved their offensive line and QB which should help Jones. Further, the Dolphins were dead last in rush D last year while the Ravens were #2. Granted that was last year, but do you really think the Dolphins improved that much and the Ravens have dropped off enough that you should expect the Dolphins to outperform the Raven run D? Go with the better back, playing behind the better O line against the weaker D.

  3. I would personally pick Perry because he is on a roll and appears to know the Bengals system.  I am Farve fan but I am not convinced that Farve and his team are on the same page quite yet.

  4. This one isn't even close my friend, and I actually have both players on my team.  Thomas Jones will crush Perry's numbers AND is much more dependable.  Furthermore, Perry has never proven that he can stay healthy 3 games in a row, let alone an entire season.  He also has no guarantee that he's going to keep the #1 job as Kenny Watson will be on his heels the whole time---and I'm betting will surpass him on the depth chart.  Best case scenario for Perry...a time share with Watson.

Jones on the other hand not only has Favre to take a lot of heat off of him, but he also has an improved O-line.  Don't worry, he'll score way more TDs this year (I'm estimating at least 8 and double digits is not out of the question).  He's also the man in NY and has no one breathing down his neck.  Leon Washington is nice, but he's a change of pace back.  I think TJ is a strong #2 RB.  Perry is a weak #3.

Now, that two paragraph ramble is for the entire year.  For week #1, I still go with Jones.  I bet that Watson gets at least 40% of the carries AND the Bungles are beat up.  Housh and Ocho Cinco are hurtin, Chris Henry is busy committing a crime somewhere and can't play until week #4 and even Palmer is banged up.

Ride the Jones train this week and every week thereafter and you'll get to where you wanna go.

  5. Jones because  Perry is not proven and Watson will see the ball a lot. Jones has no issues in NY and will get more carries and TD's.

  6. I'd go with Thomas Jones playing against the Dolphins.  Perry is gonna get his carries, but expect him to share the load with Watson.  I think Jones will have a stong season this year with Favre there to take some pressure off.
