Question:

Personal experience with the "Dore Program" for learning disabilities anyone?

I'm asking on behalf of my sister. She is having a really hard time dealing with her ADD (she is an adult). She had terrible experiences with the various meds (mainly Ritalin) growing up so she no longer takes anything for it. She has gone through 2 jobs recently and we're afraid she might be depressed. My mom is getting desperate and mentioned this Dore Program. I really need to know if this program is all it claims to be so that we can move forward (it's expensive) with proposing it to my sister. Any personal experience would be immensely appreciated!! Thanks!!

  1. Always be skeptical of "quick fixes" and "cure-all's"

Quackwatch has twp articles on the Dore method

  2. In the last two or three years, there have been alot of new meds for ADD.  If she's a younger adult, there is more available to her because some are barred from prescribing them to children and teens.  I would try to find a good pyschologist in your area - maybe even a new one.  Ask if there are any support groups.  I'm sure there are on-line support groups, too.  Women are very different throughout the "month" and from person to person in symptoms and non-medical treatment options.  Get involved and link up with others.

As far as the job goes, I'd make a call to your local Vocational Rehabilitation facility and see what it would take to get her some job-related help.  There may or may not be a long wait on this serivce, so go ahead and put her name on the list.  Also make sure you tell them she's been hired and fired twice recently due to her disability.
