  1. Yes, always if in a river with current or doing water sports. Current in a river can surprise anyone, even the best swimmers. If skiing, tubing, jet skiing, always wear one - you can be thrown and knocked silly. On a boat in calm waters I always have one available and close by. In pools or on the beach or swimming in a cove, no I don't.
