I'm thinking of joining a rugby club and playing the sport for the first time in my life. The only sport I do is varsity swimming....so you think that would help me somehow in the sport (endurance wise)....and anything else you can think of....*personal experiences on the sport preferred*

  1. Women's rugby is amazing!

Girls from my school are the best in wales! It's really strange though, off the pitch, they're right powder-puffs...but on-pitch, they're animals!

  2. rugby is a really fun sport 2 play and girls rugby is becoming more evolved all the tyme. iv played girls rugby 4 3 years now an luv it lol!!!

  3. It will help a bit but to be honest swimming fitness is totally different to Rugby fitness. I do loads of long distance cycling and that doesn't help that much.

Basically with swimming and cycling they include all the cardio vascuar stuff but do nothing for when you have to either smash into a ruck and start shifting bodies, take a hit, dish out a hit, break a hit, or offload in a hit.

I've taken to stopping every so often and lifting my bike or doing pushups then getting back on again.

  4. I started playing back in October, and I really love it - I have already played 3 full league matches and a few half matches etc. Depending on your size it isn't too difficult to get into, if you're big then starting out can be much more difficult as scrumming is difficult to get right and can be extremely dangerous when done wrong. I would say definitely go for it, the swimming will help with general fitness and muscle tone, but you can't know if you're going to be able to do it until you've tried!

  5. I played rugby for a few years until injury struck. I would join a local team and just say that you want to train with them for a bit to get your fitness and then maybe just go on for the last 15 minutes until you understand the rules and understand you will get hurt. Trust me I know

    Enjoy it tho

  6. Good luck, I think Rugby is a great game for everyone.

Being fit will definitely help. I'm sure your swim training will assist with that. Also consider adding strength and flexibility training as well if they are not already part of your routine.

Try to watch games on tv or tape to assist you with understanding the rules.

  7. i used to play woman's rugby. i'm telling you now, the majority of the players only play to hurt each other.
