Personal tragedy hits Tampa Bay Buccaneers DT Brian Price - NFL News
No one knew the reason for Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle, Brian Price missing the Organised Team Activities (OTAs) last week as the franchise remained mum on his absence while no reason was given by the player himself.
On Thursday though Price’s agent revealed the heart-breaking news that his client’s sister had died after succumbing to injuries from a car accident and the player struck by grief at the loss was hospitalised due to mental and physical stress.
Price has now been discharged from hospital after spending three days at the facility.
His agent talking to the Tampa Bay Times said about Price’s health.
"It was just a situation where like the stress of the whole situation made him sick. He couldn't hold anything down. He had headaches, a fever.”
Adding further he said.
"In fact, he just got out of the hospital (Thursday). I can't speak for him, but I think it was a combination of the mental and physical stress. I was at the funeral and there was just a lot of grief, a lot of anger. His body sort of shut down on him."
This is another big tragedy for the defensive tackle who had already lost his two brothers by the age of 15 after they were both gunned down in Los Angeles.
Price’s sister was very close to him and the loss of another sibling was a big blow for the player.
His agent went on to say.
"Most people wouldn't see that much tragedy in a lifetime, let alone in their own family,''
The agent also revealed that Price planned to adopt his sister’s two children aged seven and nine to honour the memory of his sister and both the children will move with him to Tampa Bay.
Price was on his way at the airport in Los Angeles as prepared to board a flight to Tampa Bay to join the Buccaneers when the news of his sister’s car crash reached him.
The defensive tackle rushed back to hospital but his sister had already passed away.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers have not commented on the player’s absence from the OTAs.
