Question:

Personal vows and ceremony, who goes first?

During the ceremony, when the officiant says our names, is there an order? Should it be groom then bride? Does it matter? Does it need to be the same throughout (with the same person being first all the time, with vows and rings)

Who usually says their vows first, bride or groom?

  1. It's interesting to hear the bride goes first at so many ceremonies, because most of the ceremony guides I have found have the groom saying his vows first... definitely something to consider when doing consultations... thanks.

  2. I am into old traditions, and chivalry... so I would say that the girl goes first. In almost every wedding I've seen the girl goes first. Good luck and congrats!

  3. now with all the options out there you can have the wedding anyway you like..

    good luck...

    enjoy your day...

  4. Most weddings that I have been to, the bride says her vows first.  Same with rings, etc.

  5. Traditionally the groom says his first (protector of the family and all). However, nowadays most religions have no objection to the bride saying hers first. It's a good idea to do the same person going first for both vows and rings, although you could have one person bracket the other.

My fiance and I haven't decided which one of us is walking down the aisle first, but the person who is first down the aisle will be second with the vows and rings. I know where you're coming from, wanting to flip things up.

  6. It's the 21 century!  It's your decision how it's all done.  Some parts can be traditional while others can have your own touch.  Consistency with each is key.  Keep it all flowing and put in what you and your man like.
