Personality tests for job!?

Okay, we have all taken them before...what's the best answer?

I know you should be honest, but it gets out of hand. I have taken some that say things like, "If you worked for your dad and you saw him forget to wash his hands after the bathroom, would you tell your manager?" And another one that says, "If you were given 5 cents too much change and realized it when you got home, would you go back and return it?" "If you saw an employee that looks tired, would you the manager immediately?"

I mean, how are you supposed to answer those!?

  1. Just use some common sense.

If you worked for your Dad, wouldn't your Dad be your manager?  And what would it matter unless you were working in a food services industry?

The nickel I would hang onto until I went back to the store which gave it to me.  It might not be feasible to go back the same day.  You can call them to tell them about it if you wish to keep the employee from getting into too much trouble, but it's not something that warrants a special trip.  Especially with the cost of gas today.

I wouldn't worry about the employee looking tired unless it was a safety matter, and then I would approach the employee first.

Common sense is an excellent yardstick to measure your responses against.  If the tester has no common sense to begin with, your answers will more than likely be wrong no matter what you say.

  2. Just use common sense. You can tell by reading them which answer they are looking for. Hint: they are looking for brown noses like most employers.

  3. I have had to take these before too.  They are torture.  One of the questions I got was would you rather be a coal miner or a florist?    I had a total of 3 hours worth of tests, personality tests, and  1 math test, with 3 parts.  I did get the job after all that.   Be honest and consistent with your answers and you will do fine.
