Pertamina Open: M. Gustaf Firdaus crushes Viar Sahid in Men’s Singles second round – Badminton news
M. Gustaf Firdaus, one of the upcoming shuttlers from Indonesia, continued his scintillating performance in the Men’s Singles second round when he trounced his lower ranked opponent Viar Sahid at the Pertamina Open Badminton Championships 2012 in Indonesia,
on Monday, December 10.
The third seeded Gustaf stayed confident and aggressive in the arena and he remained successful in finishing up the progress of Sahid by beating him in a dominating fashion in just 15 minutes.
Gustaf was on a different level on court as he did not face even a meagre resistance from his local ranked challenger at any stage and ended up the battle in straight games with a lopsided margin on the board.
Meanwhile, the un-seeded Sahid found himself in all sorts of trouble as he failed to live up to expectations and easily bowed down to his third seeded challenger without showing his brilliance.
Right from the opening rallies of first game, Gustaf played with outstanding control in his strokes as he took the bird early from all areas and maintained a good pressure on his challenger.
The unmatched variations in Gustaf’s shots assisted him to stay in lead and maintain his superiority against his opponent in the arena.
Until the one-minute interval in opening set, the higher ranked Gustaf stayed in complete command and managed to set up a staggering lead on the score board.
After the break, the un-seeded Sahid tried his best to show aggression but he failed to move fast in all corners and remained struggling on court.
On the other hand, the impressive Gustaf did not reduce the speed of the game at any stage and easily won it with a terrific 21-4 margin on the board.
In the second set, Sahid put in extra effort to play fast and positive badminton but he failed to create any difference on the board as his opponent played flawless badminton and set up a wonderful lead until the break.
Gustaf continued putting up superb show of attacking badminton in the concluding half and remained successful in clinching the second game with a stunning 21-5 difference on score board.
The higher ranked Gustaf punished Sahid in this Men’s Singles second round encounter in just 15 minutes with a crushing margin of 21-4 and 21-5.
