Pertamina to sponsor Rp 2 billion to the Indonesia Badminton Association – Badminton News
Pertamina, an Oil and Gas company in Indonesia, signed a contract of Rp 2 billion with the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI), which will help in producing better results in the SEA games, to be held in November, 2011.
Through this sponsorship, the PBSI is willing to clinch four gold medals in the SEA Games as the funding will help them to prepare their athletes in a better way. Another important aspect is that there are bright chances to maintain the sponsorship contract
after the SEA Games, if the Indonesian shuttlers perform according to expectations.
Chairman of PBSI, Djoko Santoso said, “Next year, the PBSI will also face prestigious competitions, including the Thomas and Uber Cups and the Olympic Games. We hope Pertamina will continue supporting us.”
Pertamina is currently operating in twelve countries including Japan, China and Australia. The company wants to extend its’ reputation at the international level and for this purpose they are supporting the game of badminton in Indonesia, which is among
the leading countries in the sport.
Pertamina spokesperson, Mochamad Harun said, “We have a commitment to continue and to take part in restoring badminton as part of our national pride.”
He further added, “Our sponsorship of the badminton SEA Games squad is merely an entry point. We will keep reviewing what we can do in the future, which might lead to a larger [sponsorship] for badminton competition events.”
This sponsorship will be quite helpful for the PBSI to organise events on the national level and produce new talent. The governing badminton body will also facilitate the elite shuttlers in the national squad to prepare in a better manner. Building a sports
science lab is another project which is expected to be completed through this grant.
In the 2011 SEA Games, the target of the PBSI is to win at least four titles. The sponsorship will help in promotion the game in the entire country. The level of badminton in Indonesia has gone down when compared to other nations like China, which is the
leading country in the arena of badminton.
