Perth Scorchers v Adelaide Strikers – Big Bash League, 2012/13 – Match Recap – Hughes half-ton propels Strikers to 6-wicket win
A quick-fire half-century from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 Cricket Association Ground in Perth.
The home team won the toss and decided to bat first, after which http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362, and both were
caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Putland-c1468 (4-0-39-2).
However, coming in at number 4, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925 (58) applied himself at the crease, and joined Marsh for an 82-run partnership for the second wicket. Their combined efforts took the team from a score of 41 in the 7th over, to 123 in the 16th.
Marsh was eventually dismissed by the Strikers’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nathan-Coulter-Nile-c2070 (14) was snapped up by Putland as his second victim of the day.
The Scorchers managed nothing remarkable after that, and the final over saw Voges (run out by Putland and wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Katich-c2543 (8*)
the lone batsman left at the crease, the Scorchers posted a solid final total of 162 by the end of 20 overs, at the expense of 6 wickets.
The Strikers’ innings, in response, was driven almost entirely by opening batsman and Player of the Match Phillip Hughes, who smashed 74 off 48, including 1 six and 9 fours. Long considered a promising potential Test batsman, Hughes was recently confirmed
as the replacement for the now-retired http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 in the Australian national Test squad, but went on to put forth an equally competent performance in the T20 format.
The opening partnership, between Hughes and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CJ-Ferguson-c1264 (8) followed him to the crease, but was unable to contribute much,
and eventually found himself caught out by Voges off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Edmondson-c1134 in the 9th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bradley-Hogg-c59047 in the 15th over. Reardon followed him back to the pavilion four overs later, caught
and bowled by Coulter-Nile, and by this point in the game, the total had swelled to 154.
From there onwards, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Theo-Paul-Doropoulos-c93156 (12*), who had established a 43-run partnership with Reardon, went on to take the team home safe. His unbeaten 10-run stand with Botha (5*) enabled the Strikers to reach 164 comfortably, with 6 wickets and 4 deliveries
remaining.
