Batting first, the Hurricanes were all out for 140 runs in 19.3 overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Travis-Birt-c2707 was the top scorer of the innings with 40 runs whereas the rest of the batsmen struggled throughout the match.
The hosts never looked comfortable while chasing down the target of 141, as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. The team was bundled up for 109 runs in 19.5 overs with all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Marsh-c1974 being the top scorer with 35.
Earlier, the Hurricanes skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/XJ-Doherty-c2804 opted to bat first after winning the toss. The pitch was not the easiest to bat on, as the ball seamed a lot. However, conditions were expected to be dicier in the second half of the match.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 opened the innings for the visitors and the pair got off to a cautious start. They did not take too many risks against the new ball, but failed to capitalise on their respective starts.
Ponting was the first man to be dismissed in the innings after adding 17 runs to the total off 19 deliveries. His opening partner followed after scoring 18 from 19.
However, the innings was given solid momentum by Birt and England’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134, as the pair put on 49 runs for the third wicket partnership. The former played aggressively, but was dismissed after contributing 40 runs to the total with the help of four fours
and one massive six.
Shah was unable to make most of the start to his innings and was sent back to the pavilion after contributing 24 runs to the total from 19 balls. His wicket saw a collapse in the lower-order and the entire team was cleaned up in the 20th over.
Wicketkeeper batsman Tom Triffitt managed to score 20 runs towards the end of the innings, guiding Hurricanes to 140 in the end.
The home team’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Edmondson-c1134 was a touch expensive, but scalped four wickets in the match.
Scorchers needed a solid start, but failed to get going, losing four wickets for just 28 runs on the board. The team’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-North-c1982 tried to resist a little, but could only manage 16 runs off 18 deliveries before being dismissed.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362 came in at number six and scored a run-a-ball 35, but his effort was only good enough for the team to reach 109.
Australia’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BW-Hilfenhaus-c1204 was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors, picking up two wickets for just 10 runs. His effort helped him winning the man of the match award in the end.
