Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Renegades – Big Bash League – Match Recap
Shaun http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 on Thursday, December 22, 2011.
Despite posting a solid target of 188, the home team was unable to defend it. Marsh was the hero of the match, as he scored an unbeaten 99 runs for the Scorchers.
Renegades’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-McDonald-c1042 won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision was an easy one, considering the flat nature of the pitch. There was absolutely no assistance for the bowlers and a high scoring game was expected.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881 and McDonald opened the innings for the hosts and got off to a fabulous start. They put on 91 runs for the first wicket hammered the opposition’s bowlers to all parts of the park.
Finch was the first man to be dismissed after contributing 49 runs to the total from 40 deliveries with the help of five fours and one massive six. He was followed by his captain, who scored a blistering knock of 50 runs off just 33 balls, clobbering three
fours and a couple of thunderous sixes.
With a couple of quick strikes, Renegades came under a bit pressure. However, a cameo of 31 off 15 balls from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Maxwell-c60189 put the team into a very good position.
Middle-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Razzaq-c41623 took full advantage of the situation and smashed 47 runs in the last 4.4 overs, guiding the team to 188 in the end. They remained unbeaten on 22 and 27 respectively.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949, the visitors’ spinner, bowled well and ended up with a couple of wickets.
Scorchers needed a solid start in order to chase down almost 10 runs per over. Their openers Marsh and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HH-Gibbs-c1549 showed absolutely no mercy to the bowlers and hammered 95 runs for the first wicket partnership in less than 10 overs.
The aggressive opening stand was finally broken by McDonald, who got rid of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021. The South African star had done the damage though, hammering 57 runs from 36 balls with the help of eight fours and a couple of sixes.
However, Marsh continued to dominate the bowlers and put on another 61 runs with his brother http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Marsh-c1974, who got out after adding 18 runs to the total.
No other wicket fell after that, as the visitors managed to chase the target down in 19.2 overs for the loss of two wickets. Marsh remained unbeaten on 99 runs off just 52 deliveries with the help of nine fours and five massive sixes. He was named man of
the match for this spectacular effort.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Harwood-c2497 and McDonald managed to pick up one wicket each for the Renegades, but did not get much support from the other bowlers.
