Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Stars – Big Bash League, 2012/13 – Live Score and Match Update – Malinga reduces Scorchers to 69, all out
Any hope the Perth Scorchers may have had of turning the tide of their fortunes, after a 6-wicket defeat at the hands of the Adelaide Strikers last week, was quelled as a rampaging http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540 claimed an emphatic 6-wicket haul, limiting them to a total
of 69, all out, in their ongoing Big Bash League match against the Melbourne Stars, at the WACA in Perth today on December 12.
Registering an astonishingly incisive and economical bowling performance (the second best in T20 cricket), Malinga (4-1-7-6) triggered a complete collapse, and razed the Scorchers’ batting order to the ground. He was aided in his efforts by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Faulkner-c1643
(4-1-16-2), while skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LJ-Wright-c1841 (1.2-0-7-1) both claimed one scalp each.
The Scorchers’ batsmen, meanwhile, failed to face up to the challenges posed by the Stars’ bowling attack, with only two batsmen managing to progress beyond single-digit scores. The destruction commenced in the very first over, with opening batsman Herschelle
Gibbs caught and bowled by Faulkner on duck in the very first over, and Malinga followed it up with the dismissal of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-North-c1982 (1) in the very next over.
The third over saw skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marcus-Peter-Stoinis-c74409 (9), courtesy Malinga.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925 (14) and Hilton Cartwright (17) were the only two batsmen who managed to reach double figures, and their 34-run stand for the fifth wicket was the highlight of their team’s innings. The duo gave the Scorchers a brief moment of respite, and got
the total up to 50. However, the partnership came to an end in the 9th over, with Voges trapped lbw by Warne.
Malinga then shifted into overdrive – the 10th over saw him dismissing both Cartwright and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joe-Mennie-c1711 (2) walking back to the pavilion courtesy the Lankan
pacer.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bradley-Hogg-c59047 (4*) made a last-ditch attempt to rescue the team, but their 10-run partnership was broken up with Beer’s dismissal off Wright in the 16th over, and the Scorchers finished all out at a paltry 69. The Stars appear
to have the game all but in the bag, if they can follow their brilliant bowling performance up with an equally efficient batting display.
