The Australian National Selection Panel has announced the squad for the third Ashes Test at WACA, Perth.
Three changes have been made in order to rejuvenate the desperate Australian team. Doug Bollinger, Marcus North and Xavier Doherty have been dropped from the 12-man squad to face England in the third Test.
The most surprising inclusion is of the less renowned left-arm spin bowler Michael Beer. He plays for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 and might make his debut in front of his home crowd. Beer has played five first-class games and has scalped 16 wickets at an average of 39.
Moreover, the left-arm spinner played a domestic game last month against the touring England side taking 5 wickets in the match.
Philip Hughes, the left-hand opening batsman has been named to replace the injured Simon Katich. Katich has been ruled out of the entire series due to the Achilles tendon problem. Hughes made his last appearance for Australia in against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Steven Smith, the talented all-rounder is the strongest candidate for the Perth Test since no other batsman has been picked to replace the struggling Marcus North at number 6. In addition, Smith’s leg-spin bowling will add variety to the Australian bowling attack. Smith has played two Test matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in his short Test career.
Australia is most likely to feature a four-man pace attack on a fast and bouncy wicket of Perth. Doug Bollinger and Doherty have been replaced by Ben Hilfenhaus and Mitchell Johnson in order to strengthen fast bowling. They will be backed up by Peter Siddle and Ryan Harris who were the best bowlers for Australia at the Adelaide Oval.
Chairman of Selectors Andrew Hilditch said, "Michael is a left-arm orthodox spinner who has been very impressive at domestic level this year. He took wickets against England in the tour match earlier this summer and we expect he will bowl very well against the English on his home ground."
