Perth Wildcats are not considering to sign Milwaukee Bucks Centre Andrew Bogut: NBA Update
The current lockout situation in the National Basketball Association (NBA) is forcing many players to play overseas. Many professional players have already signed with different international basketball clubs and many are still
considering playing overseas during the lockout. A week ago, some reports regarding Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut and his potential move to the Australian league surfaced.
According to those reports, the Perth Wildcats, Adelaide 36ers and Sydney Kings were pursuing the Bucks centre. Later, Bogut also confirmed regarding those reports and said as he is positively in talks with a number of basketball
clubs in the National Basketball League (NBL).
Bogut said, “I can confirm I am in talks with SEVERAL @NBL clubs, a long way to go yet though …. Stay tuned kiddies!”
On Thursday, some news has confirmed as the Perth Wildcats are now out of Bogut’s race and not considering signing him in this fall. On the other hand, the Wildcats’ management has started their focus on another talented player
Luke Nevill who has impressed them with his tremendous performance in two pre season games last week.
No official statement has issued yet, but the Wildcats’ managing director Nick Marvin did state in the media and told them regarding Bogut’s signing.
Marvin said, “We haven’t made any firm decision as a club yet but having received that information it has made the ability to sign Bogut and take advantage of the situation far less possible, it’s very disappointing for us because
it’s a great opportunity. However, the rules are the rules. We don’t want any special treatment over here in Perth and we hope that no one else gets any special treatment across the league.
The poor condition of the Wildcats financial position is the primary season which led their management not to consider signing Bogut. The Wildcats’ top executives know about the huge insurance fee of Bogut that they have to pay
after every three months. Bogut’s insurance cover would have cost them approximately $500,000 if they had signed him.
Andrew Bogut has relatively a good experience in the league. He has spent almost six years in the NBA and still playing with great energy. He made his way into biggest basketball league in the world in 2005 when the Milwaukee Bucks’
selected him 1st overall in the first round of 2005 NBA draft.
