Brazil is the defending champions of the 29th edition of the CSV South American Women’s Volleyball Championship, while Argentina entered the competition as runner-up team of the previous edition of the championship.
The opening day of the tournament featured three games, where hosts Peru as well as Brazil and Argentina emerged as winners. They performed wonderfully and defeated their respective opponents.
Match 1 - Peru 3, Columbia 0
The hosts Peru opened the tournament in good form and benefitted from the home advantage. They saw off Colombia in a four-set match at 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 25-17). Columbia gave a tough time to the Peruvian ladies and fought until the ending moments
of the match. The Peruvian team had the competitive edge of playing at home and additionally the emotional support of home crowd also played a big part in their victory. The Head Coach, Luca Cristofani, worked out a great game strategy and led his team to
success.
The first two sets of the match were closely contested. Columbian team came a long way fighting for a win but dropped the first set with a narrow margin of two points. Likewise, they put up an aggressive effort in the second set but still Peru took away
the second set with a 3-point lead. Finally, the Columbian squad managed to steal some points from Peru and captured the third set of the match. However, the hosts bounced back in the game in the fourth set and finished off the game.
Luca Cristofani stated after the match: "We played a great game but we missed too many serves, I want to congratulate the team for the effort.”
Match 2 - Argentina 3, Chile 0
In the second match of the day, the Argentinean squad recorded a great win over Chile. They dominated their opponents from the start to end and hindered their onslaught. Chile failed to put up with the heavy strike of volleys from the Argentinean team. Argentina’s
accurate serves and solid blocks enabled the team to get to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-12) win.
Match 3 - Brazil 3, Paraguay 0
Defending champions Brazil was too good for the underdog team from Paraguay. The Powerhouse Brazil had a relatively easy time outdoing the weak opponents. Paraguayan team could not go higher than nine points and lost the match in straight sets 0-3 (7-25,
9-25, 8-25). Coach Jose Guimaraes commented: "Concentration and respect for the opponent was the most important factor in this match.”
