Peru International 2012: Ruben Castellanos topples Anibal Marroquin in qualifying round

The Men’s Singles expert Ruben Castellanos of Guatemala trounced his compatriot Anibal Marroquin in the qualifying round of Peru International badminton event on April 11, 2012.
The spirited shuttler continued his successful run and sealed the victory with a concluding margin of 12-21, 21-14 and 21-18.
Both shuttlers tried hard to stamp their opponent and consumed their energies in three exhausting sets which took 51 minutes to get resolved.
The qualifying round participants have been divided in four different groups and the topper of each group will earn a spot in the main round.
Victorious shuttler Ruben will now lock horns with William Cabrera to lock the top position in Group D.
In semi-final tussle of Group D, he displayed superior skills and ensured his presence in the race by casting out Anibal Marroquin in three games. His rival took a great start in the opening set but could not go with the flow in following games.
In opening game of the match, Anibal launched a brisk attack and established an unassailable lead in first half of the set.
The other shuttler from Guatemala, Ruben tried to catch him on the scoreboard but he accelerated his pace and left his challenger far behind in the score.
Anibal bagged the first match point with scoreboard flashing 21-12 score in his favour.
However, his supremacy was short lived as Ruben Castellanos revived his lost rhythm in the very next game. The talented shuttler did not spare any loophole this time and pushed his rival on the back foot with some power packed rallies.
Anibal bounced back in the middle of the game by covering the gap in score but he could not read Ruben’s game completely and kept trailing behind in later part of the set.
Ruben levelled the lead by registering a distinctive margin of 21-14.
The decider certainly was the best part of match as both compatriots stretched hard to avoid a woeful exit.
Both shuttlers displayed top class badminton and kept the spectators glued to their chairs until the game point was bagged by Ruben Castellanos who seized the victory with a 21-18 score on the board.
