Peschke/ Srebotnik oust Garrigues/ Pavlyuchenkova in quarterfinal – China Open 2011
Number one seeded team of Kveta Peschke with Katarina Srebotnik got past Anabel Medina Garrigues with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets of 6-4, 7-6(5) during the doubles quarterfinal of the China Open 2011. After toughing
it out for one hour and thirty nine minutes on outdoor hard court of the National Tennis Center in Beijing, China. The top seeded team captured its fiftieth match victory of the season and was able to secure a place in the semi final.
Peschke/ Srebotnik initiated the opening round of the match and were first to go up on the scoreboard with 1-0 as they expertly handled their service game. Garrigues/ Pavlyuchenkova followed them behind and they too placed themselves
on the scoreboard at 1-1. The score progressed on even terms and in the following four games the teams broke each other back-to-back twice, in doing so, they again levelled the score at 3-3.
Neither team wanted the other to take the lead in the seventh and the eighth game and the players again won on alternate service games to round the score at 4-4. Everyone expected the set to move into a tiebreak but instead as
the top seed held serve in the ninth game. In the tenth game, they forced an error off of their opponents and sealed the opening set victory with a deftly 6-4.
The second set was also initiated by the top seed but this time they got off on the wrong foot and as they double faulted on their second serve, they endorsed a game to their adversaries. For the first two games, Garrigues/Pavlyuchenkova
capitalized on an early break and then held service to take a mini leadoff 2-0. The top seed were quick to close in on the gap by reducing the deficit and levelling the score at 2-2 as they held serve and broke Garrigues/ Pavlyuchenkova in the fourth game.
In the following two games the players won on alternate service games and bagged a game each at which the scoreboard again balanced out at 3-3. The crews danced a cat and mouse chase by breaking each other twice in the following
four games to tie the score at 5-5 which was by the end of the tenth game. In the following two games the squads pushed the set into a tie breaker at 6-6.
The toe-to-toe leg carried well into the tiebreaker and the players battled each other with neither one letting the other to take an upper hand. They kept matching a blow for a blow and with a few breaks and holds they tied the
score at 5-5 points each. However, in the last two points the top seed broke Garrigues/Pavlyuchenkova one more time to clinch a 7-5 victory in the tiebreak.
Peschke/ Srebotnik managed to secure a place in the semi final of the event and next up for them is fourth seeded team of Vania King with Yaroslava Shvedova.
