Peschke/ Srebotnik oust King/ Shvedova in semi-final – WTA Championships 2011
Czech Kveta Peschke with Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik got rid of American Vania King with Kazakh Yaroslava Shvedova in the semi final of the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships 2011.
The two crews battled it out on indoor hard courts of the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey. After just one hour and twenty three minutes Peschke/ Srebotnik thrashed the American/ Kazakh in straight sets of 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday the 29th of October.
The first set of the match was initiated by Peschke/ Srebotnik as they had just won the service toss. The Czech and the Slovenian skilfully held their opening serve and commenced the scoreboard at 1-0. Following in their footsteps was King/ Shvedova, who too expertly managed to bag their first service game and placed themselves on the scoreboard at 1-1.  In the third game the Czech/ Slovenian once more held their serve and in the fourth game they capitalized on a break point to take a mini lead of 3-1.
It was the most crucial break of the entire set, as after that the teams matched a blow for a blow and neither one dropped a single service game. Although, Srebotnik/ Peschke had two set points at 5-2 and 5-3 but they were unable to close the game. Eventually in the third set point the top seeded team of Peschke/ Srebotnik managed to clog the opening set with a 6-3 victory and were now one up in the match.
The second set of the match was initiated by King/ Shvedova and they tried to ward off their adversaries but were unable to do so and instead, double faulted on their serves to endorse a breakpoint. On the other hand, the top seeded team squandered off two successive games to comfortably place themselves with a mini lead of 2-0 on the scoreboard.
The two teams then traded breaks in the third and the fourth game. Nonetheless, King and Shvedova made a comeback by closing the deficit at 3-3 with a hold of serve and by capitalizing on a break point in the sixth game. The squads held serves in the following two games and the score once more tied at 4-4. However, in the last two games King/ Shvedova came under pressure and double faulted. In doing so; they handed the set and the match to their adversaries.
Peschke/ Srebotnik were able to secure a place in the doubles final of the WTA Championships.
