Peschke/ Srebotnik strain past Jans/ Rosolska in the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open doubles
Second seeded pair of Kveta Peschke from Czech Republic and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia battled hard to overcome the Polish duo of Klaudia Jans and Alicja Rosolska in the second round of the doubles category of the Mutua Madrid Open. The winning pair settled the final score at 6-2, 1-6, 10-3, in just one hour and seven minutes of play at the Park Manzanares in Madrid, Spain.
The Czech-Slovenian combination of Peschke and Srebotnik got a bye to the second round of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) tournament. They had tough times in taking down the Pole competitors but remained resilient to accomplish victory and book a spot in the quarter-finals of the clay-court tournament. The second seeded duo raced through the opener with ease but faced a devastating slump in the following set. They dropped the second set to Jans and Rosolska, who totally blew away Peschke and Srebotnik to enforce the third. However, the Pole pair crumbled in the decider, ending their voyage at Madrid.
The contest was fairly poised and momentum swings were regularly witnessed. Apart from the error-ridden second set, Peschke and Srebotnik excelled over their opponents in every segment of the game. They had a blistering start to the contest but tend to lose focus in the middle parts, losing the second set in a terrible manner. The second seeded pair crafted four break chances and converted three of them, while their opponents cashed in three of their nine opportunities in the competition.
The opener took off with Peschke and Srebotnik dominating their rivals and exerting early pressure upon them. Srebotnik drew first blood in the second game but the Pole contestants retaliated immediately in the very next game with a break point. Peschke and Srebotnik then shifted their gears to race past their opponents, striking two more serve breaks and sealing the first set at 6-2.
An abrupt momentum swing took place in the second set as Jans and Rosolska amazingly bounced back into the game and clouted two straight serve breaks to rocket away with the second set at 6-1. The decisive third set was anticipated to be a nail biter but Jans and Rosolska lost their way early. A series of mini-breaks from Peschke and Srebotnik gave no chance to their opponents to survive and the second seeded duo wrapped up an emphatic victory at 10-3.
Peschke and Srebotnik either will be facing the pair of Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina or the duo of Nadia Petrova and Anastasia Rodionova in the quarter-final clash at Madrid.
