  1. 1) Yes.  Pesticides have been proven to be the cause of several ailments, including and not limited to leukemia.

    2) Wind, rain, overspray.  The means of transfer are almost as numerous as the pesticides themselves.

    3) No, in fact many pesticides kill pests that could've naturally done the same job.  They have improved pesticides to make them more environmentally friendly but not enough to make them safe, only enough to make them safer.

  2. There is an outstanding book called "Silent Spring" written by Rachel Carson.  She was one of the greatest U.S. environmentalists ever (see link below).  One of the key themes / portrayals in the book is entire bird species being wiped out by the use of an insecticide called DDT.  Thankfully that is banned in North America now.

    On your questions:

1.)  Some high cluster rates have been tied to the use of some insecticides and childhood leukemia.  So yes, there is a connection between the two, but we've almost entirely found this in children, not adults.

2.)  The two most common ways insecticides travel into other regions is while they are in their airborne application mode or via the movement of ground water.  Insecticides sprayed on a yard up hill, will eventual reach a yard down hill via the water table.

3.)  It is thought that the massive number of frog and toad deformations we saw in the late 1990s were a direct result of a pesticide being widely used at the time.  Again, look into Carson's foundation to see more about how damaging pesticides are to birds.

    Hope this helps.
