Okay, i am 13 and i live on a pretty big piece of land with a pond. I got two baby ducks yesterday and built a pen for them. They are about a month or younger. In the pen they have their food, water, and a big stainless steel pan for their pool. They are really scared of humans. I wanted to know how to get them used to be so they aren't running to the far side of the cage and trying to escape. Please help, answers, web sites, anything at this point.

  1. Spend time with them. Sit in their pen and read a book or listen to music and they will get used to seeing you and come to trust you more.

Hold them and pet them, I have yet to see a baby duck not fall asleep within 5 minutes after settling down :)

This is a site/forum for chickens but there is a section for 'other fowl' and many people on there have ducks: http://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/in...

I am on there under Hooligan.

Good luck and hope to see you there!

  2. don't give ducks bread or crakers- it's really bad for them. for now, just stand/sit outside the pen and have them get used to you. every time you go out get a little closer, but never so close that they totally freak out. Good Luck!!

  3. You built a pen? I don't think you have the capability and knowledge to do that. Are you sure it wasn't your dad?

And yes, just give it time

  4. Go in the cage with food and sit in there until they come to you.

  5. Just spend more time with them. Go in the pen with them and feed them out of your hand....our ducks like crackers and bread.
