  1. Yes! Mini Rexes make great first pets, and first rabbits! Great rabbits! They are very velvety, and there coats are just perfect! They are small (dwarfs) so they can easily be handled, and do not require as much space. You should get a doe. I really, really, do not know why, but, well... I have a doe! Bucks are awsome too! Make sure you do lots and lots of reaserch on what they need, like the diet, cage, etc.

    Good Luck!!!

  2. Yes they are so cute, my family had one but he died because we fed him lettuce. Rabbits arent supposed to have lettuce because it messes up something with their insides so if you get one, dont feed it lettuce!

  3. Yes, Mini Rex make lovely pets. They are great!

Make sure you get one from a respectable breeder and ask to meet the parents if possible. A well bred and well raised rabbit is a friendly one!

Do not be tempted to buy from a pet store or BYB, as they are often taken away from the mother too young, not properly cared for or handled and this can make them nervous and aggressive as adults.

Whether you get a buck or a doe is completely up to you, both can make lovely pets. Whatever you get it will need to be neutered or spayed, bucks will often spray urine and thump if left entire, and does will get grumpy when they want to breed, and also does that are not bred have high chances of uterine cancer. Fixed bunnies live longer.

One thing to remember with the Rex breeds is that they have less hair on the feet than normal furred breeds so they can be prone to getting sore hocks. They will usually not be a problem but they do need a closer eye than most breeds, especially if the rabbit will be spending a lot of time standing on hard surfaces.

Besides that they are a fantastic breed and I would recommend them to anyone! Good luck finding your perfect bunny.

  4. adopt, and ill be happy.

  5. Yes Mini Rex are a great first rabbit.I have been raising and showing Mini Rex for about 10 years now. They stay small, around 4- 4 1/2 pounds. They require little grooming as their coats does not get matted or dirty. All you need to do is wipe them down with a baby wipe once a week. the hardest part of it is trimming their nails and even that is not hard to do.

On a strictly pet basis I would recommend a buck. Does can become somewhat terriotorial when they reach breed age at 6 months. Bucks always have a great attitude and never get cranky about their surroundings. As long as you only have 1 you do not need to worry about getting it altered. A rabbit can live a long healthy life, up to 12 years without being altered.

Make sure you have everything ready for your rabbit before you ever bring it home. Please do not buy from a petstore. You will not get a purbred rabbit and most of the time the petstore ones have some type of health issue. Mostly stemming from the fact they are taken from their dams too young.

Find a reputable breeder near you. Preferably one that is an ARBA member. You can attend an ARBA rabbit show, and talk to breeders. Many times breeders have rabbit for sale at the show.

You can look for a show near you on the ARBA website.

Go to the site and click on the shows link.

    http://www.arba.net

This website has lots of info. Also consider joining and becoming a member. Then you can show your rabbit also.

Too bad you don't live near me (or do you?) I have 3 litters of kits that are ready to go to their new homes right now.

If you have any other questions you can email me privately.
