Pet Rat Diet?

What is a good diet to feed my rats? They dont like Harlan Teklad and I dont like Suebees. So what do you feed you rats and what do you suggest?

I buy the grain mix from www.ratnutrition.com and nutro light dog food for a staple protein. They LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff. It's good quality product, good customer service, and my 2 boys go through about a bag a month.

Soy is bad for rats. Why not suebees or your own mix similar to suebees? I had a friend who fed her rats specifically on human quality foods (fruits, veggies, pastas, chicken, eggs...) and her rats were healthy and long-lived.

I feed my rats Kaytee brand lab blocks, they are clean and easy to measure.  I just think lab blocks are better than seed mixes and the rats can hide them easier so they can have a snack for later :)

Have you tried Mazuri lab blocks? Or Oxbow? Some rats don't like Oxbow, but it's very high quality and others love it. My boys devour Mazuri and aren't much interested in Oxbow. Mazuri isn't as high quality as the other two, but it's not a bad lab block.

I also give them a small amount of Reggie Rat food with the block, but I pick out the alfalfa and corn bits first. :)

A Good rat diet. Follow this and you rat will live long with nil aliments.

Grains

Vegetables

Fruit

The most important food group starting first.

All to be fed raw and fresh daily. All food in petstores is c**p. You have no idea what they truly put in there.

I have a friend who has developed natural diet for his rats (that is his job for other animals anyway) And they live-lived an astounding 7 years, furthermore they lived these years with no tumors, cancers, hind leg paralyisis. Ask the people who stubbornly stick to "rat food" in stores how long their rats live, and how often do they get sick.

And just so you don't go thinking it was "good genes" his rats were all rescues, god knows what happened to them before he got ahold of them.
