I am interested in starting up boarding kennels for dogs and cats possibly small animals. I have no idea at all about how to go about this and wonder if anyone can offer advice?

Many thanks

  1. You firstly need a council official to visit the premises intended for your venture to see if it matches regulations ie; is the proposed building or buildings far enough away from the neighbours not to cause noise disturbance and far enough away from residential premises for H&S requirements.

Then you need to apply for planning permission (if successful) for proposed buildings and facilities such as a water & electricity supply and safe food storage and kennel blocks with heating or not with detailed plans for submission.

Then you should outline a 5 year business plan to submit to banks for business loan help if required and also outline any requirements in order to get your business up and running.

Then you need to contact a Cash & Carry business or several wholesale suppliers in order to keep your running costs to a minimum.

Then advertisements to get guests to book!

    Good Luck.

  2. my friend has a cattery, so I know a bit about this. Find a property with a bit of land, fairly remote, get planning permission, go on a business course at college, get a friendly vet to agree to deal with you, have savings, advertise widely and you're off!

  3. Maybe you will find these pages of help.
