Pet for A Seven Year Old?

Question

My seven year old brother wants a pet. He doesn't want fish, he wants something he can hold and he wants something all of his own. Like most seven year olds, he lacks the responsibility to completely take care of a pet, so I (his teenage sister) will probably back him up on some of it, but I don't want his pet to complete control my life (I have my own pets to take care of). What type of pet should I suggest to him? All comments and suggestions are welcome!

if he is responsible a puppy but i have 2 hermit crabs and i am 11 .... so a hermit crab or fish. but when i was 7 i wanted a hamster or mouse . anyone would work.
