  1. Well they are very good about sleeping all day and most of the night.(Well they are nocturnel) also they don't like to be handeled that much unless they really know you and they are very independent!

  2. I don't really agree with Froggy that you should get rats. Even with a friend, rats generally need more socializing and interaction than a hamster. They're more intelligent and therefore need more stimulation to stay happy. They also need much more handling than a hamster, and much more time outside the cage. A syrian hamster would be alright for you, or a pair of dwarfs. Syrians are solitary and dislike other hamsters, anyway, although you should still try to handle him every day. At the end of the day is alright, as hamsters are nocturnal and he'd probably like this better. Get lots of toys and things to chew and climb on/in.

One thing that you need to know is that ALL ANIMALS are time consuming. If you don't think you'll have time, err on the side of caution and don't get a pet until you have time for it. That would be better than getting a pet you end up accidentally neglecting because you're too busy. They will get smelly if you don't clean the cage every week, sometimes more often if they're messy buggers.

  3. hamster need holding or they become bitey.  if you want a pet that is lower maintenance but still fuzzy try a pet rat with a buddy. they keep eachother company when your not there and if you dont get to hold them for a day they dont get bitey.
