Pet kennels? help! ?

so im going to new york for 5 days.. and i live in california..i have a 1 year old dog..about 12 pounds and well i was wondering if u think its safe to put her in a pet kennel.. has anyone had any experience with pet kennels? the one im putting her in is 15$ a day and ive seen the cages and their exceptionally big.but i was wondering peoples experiences with putting there animals in kennels.. i just want to make sure everything will be okae.. and if u by any chance you've kept a pet at the "st louis veterinary clinc" in oakland ca..then well that would be great.. thanks! :]

we put our dog in a kennel and when we got her back she had kennel cough because they didn't wash their hands after touching each dog and wasn't acting normal. She was very anxious about us leaving her at home any time after that. I would suggest leaving your dog with someone you really can trust, maybe your neighbours if they are nice.
