I just moved in my apartment in March, my kids spilled water in their room. Afterward, there was a fowl ammonia smell coming from the room. The landlord thought it was the kids fault, so she made me replace the carpet. *Here's the Problem* The carpet guy that removed the carpet said it was animal f***s in the flooring. What should I do?

  1. Pull back the carpet and coat over the stained area with a clear Shellac.  That will seal the smell in and be a cheap fix.  Most likely there was an old dog p**s stain in that area that the water brought back out.  Shellac is cheap, available in quarts and does just what you need.

  2. why do people start trouble with the people whom are keeping a roof over your head?????

if this is true, why don't you send the carpet out for a scientific report, concluding what he saw was f***s.

now really.....did it smell bad when you moved in??

one trick is to flood the room with a black light during night-time hours, this will show urine.

good luck, but be reasonable to your landlord, as long as the landlord is being reasonable.

always be sure of what you claim.

here is a link for your research.

  3. tell the landlord to give you the money back!!!!

  4. I probably wouldn't report to the health dept unless I wanted to move. The landlord has a right to have you move or not to renew your lease at the end of the time. Try to work it out with the new information you have from the carpet installer. Same goes for with holding the rent money. Maybe the landlord doesn't know about the animal urine and will take care of it.
