  1. Maybe its a large hamster because hamsters are pretty much a rat without  tail

  2. It may be ringtail, a tail-less rat or had an accident and de-gloved the skin.

Basic fist aid is styptic powder to stop the blood and the a pressure bandage to keep it from being opened up more. I usually put a mix of triple antibiotic ointment and styptic powder on a tissue and hold it there.Check into a local vet, they may have some ideas of what to put on the tail.

If your rat friend is not bothering the end, I would not bother it either. If he's chewing on it the vet will need to check it out as soon as possible.

    good luck

  3. Your rats tail hasnt been cut off. It has what is called ringtail. I have a rat that has this. There is an article in the rat health guide that will tell you how to deal with this. When I got my girl it was already healed up. Its caused by to much humidity in the rats environment.
