  1. I think that pet stores are the worst places in association with pets.

The bland truth is, a pet store is a store. A business. It is NOT financially possible for a business to behave like a breeder, and provide the best for animals.

THE best place to buy an animal if you are not adopting is from a certified breeder. A breeder does not breed for money. In fact animals should not ever be linked to making money. A breeder will probably lose money in the process of breeding. They also bred only a couple of litters annually, not nearly enough to keep a store well-stocked. You will be just like those selfish puppymiller breeders that over-breed for money. All pet stores buy their animals from these selfish breeders because no self-respecting breeder wouldever sell to a store! That is the funny thing. By having any kind of pet store, you are supporting this terrible trade where animals are unhealthy, too young, and have a number of other problems.

The other thing is that there is a serious pet over population. I for one would never ever buy an animal, only adopt. You will be contributing to all those death statistics in shelters by having a store.

I would either have a pet store that never stocks animals, only supplies, or find another job where you can work with animals. Like an animal shelter for example.

  2. Don't sell animals from breeding mills. A quality pet supply only place that features rescues is best.

  3. i think that is not required but it will help alot to take class about business courses and you will have to get a couple of  licenses like a tax licenses

  4. the ONLY thing you need to sell animals - other than a business license - is a lack of morals.

real animal lovers DO NOT exploit pets to make profit.. PLUS they know that pet stores contribute to immense cruelty by supporting puppy mills and warehouse breeding (animals created cheaply as possible - not much handling etc)

a business course is always a good idea for opening any business.. BUT I suggest if you love animals - sell supplies NOT pets!

  5. Business courses and a license would have to be obtained prior to opening a pet store. But what kind of store did you have in mind? It would be very expensive to carry all types of animals. I think it would be more cost efficient if you specialized in one area. Like a reptile, bird, or fish store.

As the owner of the establishment you get to choose where your animals come from. When looking for possible breeders, definately ask to look at their facilities. Or just use local breeders.
